What jurisdictions have approved this course in Canada?

We are proudly Canadian and have been certifying food handlers in Canada since 1997.

Our certification is acknowledged by all local and provincial public health authorities throughout Canada.

Your Managing Food Safety food handler certificate will be accepted by all health inspectors.


Who needs to take the food handler course?

This course is highly recommended for individuals involved in food service, especially those serving the public.

It not only meets the mandated food handler training standards throughout Canada but is also well-suited for restaurant staff, daycare providers, camp personnel, long-term care facility employees, and those working at special events, among others.


What is included in the Managing Food Safety food handler online course fee?

The online course and online exam are included.Taxes are additional.


What languages are offered?

The online course and online exam are available in English, Canadian French, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified text and Mandarin), and Punjabi.


What equipment is required?

You will need an Internet connection and a device with a web browser, camera and microphone.

PC, Mac and Chromebook computers are recommended.

You can access the content one a newer phone or tablet.

How long does the course take?

The course takes between 6 and 8 hours including the online exam. You can control the playback speed up to 2 times faster than the normal speed.


How much time to I have to complete the course?

We recommend completing the course in 30 days, so everything is still fresh in your mind for the exam. But if you need more time, just ask and we will extend your enrollment.


Do I have to complete the course in one sitting?

No. You can learn at your own pace. You can quit and resume back where you left off.


What grade is required to pass the certification exam?

To pass the exam you need to score 70% (correctly answer 42 of 60 multiple choice questions).


What if I fail the exam?

Honestly, that is rare. 98% of our learners pass the exam on their first attempt. If required, you have a free retest.


How is the online exam proctored?

We are the only provider of food handler certification that does not outsource the web proctored exam.

Once you have completed the course content you will schedule your exam.

We employ in-house proctors that connect via Zoom.

The proctor will verify your identity with a government issued photo ID card (to protect your privacy no pictures are taken of your ID).

After verifying the ID the proctor will walk you through getting started and stay with you for the duration of the exam in case you require any technical help.

The exam sessions are recorded and stored on a Canadian server. Recordings are automatically deleted after 7 days.


How do I get my certificate?

Once your online exam is complete the proctor will verify your name and email.

Within 1 to 2 business days a digital certificate will be emailed to you.


How do I get a replacement certificate?

Does the food handler certification expire?

Yes. The industry practice is that certification expires after 5 years.

Some companies may require more frequent recertification.


Who has access to my exam results?

We respect our learner's privacy.
